I’m a big fan of Twitter, and believe that it is an especially worthwhile channel for watch collectors. “Readers” can keep up with news in the watch world and find interesting postings and articles, as soon as they are published. “Writers” can Tweet when they have published new blog postings, webpages, articles or even messages on discussion forums. In terms of finding watches to purchase, there are several reliable dealers who post notices whenever they list interesting watches for sale, and we are seeing more watches sell very quickly by means of Twitter.
On a couple of occasions, folks have asked me “Who are the best people to follow on Twitter?”, and there was recently a thread on a leading discussion forum, in which participants listed their favorite people to follow in the world of watches. Accordingly, I believe that it will be useful to publish a list of “recommended” people to follow on Twitter.
Some notes about the following list:
- For each person listed, I have included their Twitter name, the number of people who follow them (as of November 15, 2012), and a very brief description of what they are Tweeting about. I have used their number of “Followers”, as this is a relatively good indication of the perceived value of their Tweets. In a few instances, I have included favorite writers who do not (yet) have a big following.
- Almost all the folks that I have listed below Tweet primarily about watches. As you might imagine, some of the writers also cover fashion, lifestyle or other interests, but I have tried to include only writers that have significant watch content.
- Compiling this list was entirely unscientific. There are no formulas, algorithms or even a consistent methodology. I started with a list posted on a discussion forum, added some personal favorites, spent a couple of hours bouncing around Twitter, and there it was — 94 great folks for watch enthusiasts to follow on Twitter.
- I have tried to avoid duplication For example, when I have listed a blog or magazine, I have usually not listed its editors (since most of their watch-related Tweets will relate to the publication).
- I am sure that there are obvious people who I follow on Twitter and enjoy, but have inadvertently left off this list. My apologies, in advance, for these omissions. If you believe that you belong on this list, or if there are other folks that you would recommend for the list, please send me a message at onthedash@bellsouth.net. I expect to update this list from time to time.
- At the bottom of this list, I have listed several watch brands. There’s not much “value added” here. Most of the major brands are on Twitter, so if there is a brand that you would like to follow, find it and follow it. No need for much more on the brands.
